This piece was created as a form of republishing a text. The text in the quilt comes from the book Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019, Edited by Ibram X. Kendi & Keisha N. Blain.
This quilt is an ode to my culture. The subject matter of the book-much like our history-is concealed beneath the applique. And a strip piecing technique is used as a nod to Gee's Bend quilts.
